This week's Newsletter

Hello,

This week we've got the Oxjam launch shows on sale, headlined by The Charlatans, Diana Vickers, Johnny Borrell, and Four Tet, as well as shows from Yann Tiersen, The Mountain Goats, Noah & The Whale, The Irrepressibles, Those Dancing Days, Abe Vigoda, I Blame Coco, Nottinghamshire's Headstock Festival, headlined by Ash and Field Music, and a celebration of 20 years of House music, presented by Yikes.

With so much to cover I'll keep the irreverant chitter-chatter to an uncharacteristic minimum, simply pointing you in the direction of the WeGotTickets Spotify Playlist and wishing you a fond farewell for another week...

Oxjam:

We're delighted to announce our involvement with this year's Oxjam, the third year in a row we've worked as the event's offical ticketing partner. Oxjam is the month-long music festival with hundreds of events around the UK throughout October; it's organised by people who know and love their local music scene, all in aid of Oxfam.

We'll be donating 50% of our booking fee from all Oxjam tickets sold and making it possible for you lovely people to make your own donations when buying tickets on Oxjam events, and on every event across the site throughout October - last year we raised nearly £5000 so let's make sure we better that this time around. Have a look HERE to see everything we've got going on, as well as a running total of the amount raised so far by WeGotTickets and our customers.

Launch Shows:

Launching this year's Oxjam is a series of shows taking place at an Oxfam store in London. We couldn't be more excited about these upcoming launch shows, which include gigs from The Charlatans and Dan Le Sac vs Scroobious Pip, Diana Vickers and Gabriella Cilmi, Johnny Borrell, and Four Tet. Not bad, eh?

Takeovers:

The main focus of this year's Oxjam will be a series of multi-venue, one-tickets-gives-entry-to-all Takeovers across the UK throughout the month of October. At the moment there are around 14 Takeovers on the site but with over 30 planned and more going on sale all the time, keep checking back for your local event.

Faithless Sound System:

In addition to the launch shows and the Takeovers, we're pretty excited about the hundreds of other Oxjam events going on sale all the time, and one that's really got us all talking is Cool To Be Kind's Faithless show at The Coronet Theatre. Featuring the Faithless Sound System, a dress up show hosted by Vice Magazine and loads of cool DJs this is one you've simply got to get along to...

Yann Tiersen:

Coming to most people's attention with the soundtrack to 2001's French classic 'Amelie', Yann Tiersen has made a habit of composing some of the most beautiful music these little ears have ever heard. And that's not hyperbole for the sake of selling a few tickets, you cynic, I really do love this man's music.

Drawing influence from minimalist composers, European classical music and French folk, Tiersen heavily utilises the accordion and other interesting instruments like the harpsichord and melodica and has become renowned for his work the world over. If I was making a film, I'd want this man to soundtrack it.

The Mountain Goats:

Since stepping away from a cassette recorder and into the recording studio in 2001, to make their debut record for the fantastic 4AD, The Mountain Goats have established themselves as one of the most vehemently lo-fi acts working under the indie-rock umbrella.

A cult band with a penchant for making scratchy americana, they're just as well known for the quality of their lyrics as they are their music. All clever mataphors and imaginative stories, The Mountain Goats have created several series' of songs, playing out larger narratives than one song allows time for. All this and a recent expansion to a three-piece after the recruitment of drummer Jon Wurster make The Mountain Goats a band not to be missed.

Noah & The Whale:

Celebrating the fifth anniversary of one of our favourite indie labels, Young & Lost Club, this show was originally scheduled for Village Underground on 1st September but has now been rearranged - so if you couldn't make the original date, maybe you can get yourself along to the new one?

One of Young & Lost Club's flagship artists, Noah & The Whale are possibly the most credible band to come out of the twee-folk genre that was so popular a couple of years ago, and they're now back with a more hard-hitting follow-up album, ' The First Days of Spring'.

Support comes from Exlovers, whose dreamy and delicate vocals hide an uneasy longing for something constantly out of reach. The night also boasts DJ sets from such names as White Lies, Good Shoes and Chess Club. Be prepared for an intense evening celebrating two great things, independent labels and awe-inspiring music.

The Irrepressibles present MIRROR MIRROR:

The Irrepressibles are the pop-meets-art project of composer and artist Jamie McDermott. His music is both intensely intimate, rawly passionate and playfully orchestrated. They are a performance orchestra of 10 classical musicians who resonate his raw emotional anthems and David Lynch-esque surreal pop songs with contemporary movements and open childlike personas to become an extraordinary flock of marionettes set inside a world of dream-like emotion.

Following on from the commission of their Human Music Box spectacle for the V&A in May 2009, the MIRROR MIRROR spectacle was debuted to a sell-out audience at the Queen Elizabeth Hall in February of this year. It received a standing ovation and has since been presented across Europe to further audience and critical acclaim. It will now be presented in a new incarnation at the Scala in collaboration with London fashion designer Rachel Freire.

Inside the MIRROR MIRROR spectacle the "performance orchestra" move inside a set of mirrors, electricity, and light and shadow - Jamie's songs extending with audio effects by sound designer William Turner Duffin. The result is something between fantasy and performance art and is definitely not to be missed, especially if you're craving something a little bit different from a night out.

Those Dancing Days:

How do you say that a band are really hot and that you have a schoolboy crush on their lead singer without looking like an arse? I'm not sure you can, but rather than just not mention it I'm still going to throw that out there, in the hope that the aforementioned hot lead singer reads this and decides to get in touch... wishful thinking, eh?

Anyway, so, Those Dancing Days are an all-girl Swedish indie-pop band taking their lead from the likes of Bis, The Concretes, The Slits and Bow Wow Wow and caused quite a stir a couple of years back when they first broke through. Releasing records on Wichita and playing with the kind of urgent and sloppy approach that makes so many bands vital, Those Dancing Days are a band with a big future.

Abe Vigoda:

Easily confused, very deliberately on the band's part, with the actor of the same name, Abe Vigoda are one of the most underrated bands of the last few years. LA kids plying their trade in arty, energetic punk inspired by the likes of Mika Miko and the Mae Shi, the band uniquely incorporate (at least until all the other young bands out there heard them) Caribbean and tropical rhythms into their sound.

As is often the case, the forerunners of a scene can be overlooked in favour of the more refined sound of those who follow, but I for one am really hoping that the next 12 months sees the band move from cult underground favourites to semi-mainstream success. Having been away for some time making their fourth album, entitled 'Crush' and due for release in September, it's good to have one of my favourite bands back.

I Blame Coco:

After a summer spent doing the rounds at UK festivals, Coco Sumner (she who is being blamed, and the daughter of Sting) will hit the road for a full UK tour this October to promote the release of her debut album 'The Constant'.

Having been signed to Island Records in 2007 off the back of an independently released 7" co-written by Mr Hudson, Coco's had plenty of time to put together her impressive debut and has worked with the likes of Miike Snow, Robyn, Fyfe Dangerfield and Pete Doherty. Check out this precocious new talent at the Oxford O2 Academy in October.

Headstock Festival:

This year marks the first ever Headstock Festival, being held in the beautiful Newstead and Annesley Country Park, just on the outskirts of Newstead, Nottingham. All profits are being ploughed back in to the local community, so it really is one for all of you Nottinghamshire folk to get along to.

More than just a picturesque location and a philanthropic attitude, Headstock also boasts a very impressive inaugural line-up, with headline slots from Ash and Field Music, as well as Frightened Rabbit, The Beat, Penguin Cafe, and more. If this year's festival goes well, the good folk running the event are promising us a full three-day festival for 2011, so get your tickets now and support and enjoy one of the most exciting new festivals of the summer.
